Minced boys with brown onions, taters & gravy
Hakkedrenge med brune løg, kartofler og sovs.
This is probably in my top 3 of classic danish dishes there is out there, beef, tatoes and gravy.
For extra points serve with danish pilsner like Carlsberg.
Ingredients for 2 people
- Minced beef, around 300 grams
- Butter
- 1-2 onions
- Approx 100 ml of Beef broth
- Corn starch
- Salt & Pepper
Instructions
Taters:
Boil the taters by putting them in a pot with just enough water to cover them, start the boil once the water is boiling set a 15 minute timer and let them simmer.
Minced boys with brown onion and gravy.
Peel, half and slice the onions.
Put 2 table spoons of butter on a pan at low medium heat (100 - 130).
Once the butter has melted add the onions. Fry them for around 10 minutes, stir once in a while, make sure they don't burn. Add a bit of salt and pepper.
Start the taters slightly after starting the onions, then the timing works out more or less.
While the onions are cooking prepare the minced boys. Half the meat and form 2 balls. Press the balls down until they get the burger shaped, they should be around 2 cm tall. With the back of a knife make a pattern on the minced boys to prevent them from losing their shape while cooking, its also a good idea to press them hard in the middle so they are slightly concaved (cooking will convex them a bit, this way you get flat and nice minced boys)
Once the onions are nice, soft and brown take them out of the pan and add them to a bowl.
Add 1-2 tablespoons of butter and once the butter is melted turn up the heat to medium-high (130-160), then put in the minced boys.
The minced boys should be fried approx 5 mins on each side, flipping them every 2.5 mins.
Once the minced boys are done cooking take them out of the pan and set them aside.
Add the beef broth and boil it down a bit, then gradually add corn starch mixed with cold water to get the right consistency for the gravy, better add too little corn starch and add more.
Once the gravy is ready add the minced boys back into the pan in the gravy, add onions on top of the minced boys and serve with the taters.
Tada, you have now served the traditional danish dish: Minced boys with brown onions and gravy.
